Arena Pays d'Aix

LArena-du-Pays-dAix-83586

The Arena du Pays d'Aix is a modern multi-purpose venue located in Luynes, on the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence, around 10 km from the center of Aix and 20 km from Marseille.

Designed by architects Auer-Weber and Christophe Gulizzi, and built by the Fayat group, this large-scale infrastructure meets a dual ambition: to host high-level sporting events, as well as shows, concerts, trade fairs and a variety of cultural events.

  • Capacity and modularity: the main hall can accommodate over 6,000 seats, with an adjoining hall seating over 1,000.

  • Multiple configurations: thanks to retractable bleachers, a spacious stage and 17 possible configurations, the Arena can be adapted to a wide variety of events.

  • Surfaces and equipment: the non-staged hall offers around 2,300 m², with a height under the technical grid of around 14 meters. There are also several lounges, dressing rooms and ancillary spaces for receptions or professional use.

Edeis has been appointed by the City of Aix-en-Provence to operate the site over a 7-year period, from 2025 to 2032. As part of this project, Edeis has delegated all WiFi deployment and management to Wifirst (replacing Orange).

// A SENSE OF TIMING

Large-scale WiFi deployment delivered in record time

The Arena du Pays d'Aix, the Aix region's new multifunctional venue, was preparing to host its very first sporting event on September 6, 2025 , with a handball match between Aix and Chartres in front of over 5,000 spectators.

A major challenge lay ahead: guaranteeing high-performance, reliable WiFi connectivity for the public, organizers and in-house professionals from day one.

The date was set: end of construction on September 2, 2025, official opening four days later. In just a month and a half, Wifirst designed, deployed and commissioned a WiFi infrastructure worthy of the biggest arenas. This exceptional timing was made possible by exemplary coordination with the technical teams and project partners.

// AN INFRASTRUCTURE TO MATCH AMBITIONS

From the very first match, the infrastructure proved its robustness, with a peak of 1,400 simultaneous connections. The performance of the network enabled us to meet the expectations of the public and the organizers, proving the reliability of the Wifirst solution in a complex and demanding environment.

  • 111 Ruckus WiFi access points deployed throughout the stadium, with a network design created in collaboration with Ruckus Professional Services.

  • A network core backed by 10G fiber, guaranteeing optimal performance even in crowded conditions.

  • 4 distinct SSIDs to segment uses: guest access for the general public, internal business services, event needs, and flows dedicated to technical partners.
