Skolae: high-flying network for digital schools

The Skolae network, which brings together around thirty schools from the GES, EDUCTIVE, and Abilways networks across France, has chosen Wifirst to equip all its campuses with a bespoke network infrastructure. With very specific needs related to intensive student usage, high user density, and security constraints, the group relied on Wifirst's expertise to design and deploy a high-performance and scalable managed WiFi and LAN solution.
/ CONNECTIVITY CHALLENGE
A network designed for intensive student usage
Skolae campuses welcome hundreds of students every day, often simultaneously connected to multiple devices. Providing a powerful and consistently available telecoms network is the core challenge of this ambitious project. Usage goes far beyond simple web Browse, including development environments, cloud deployments, heavy collaborative projects, streaming, video calls, and more. To deliver an optimal experience, Wifirst has implemented a bespoke infrastructure, integrating:
-
Dedicated very high-speed fibre with guaranteed throughput (2 to 10 Gbps per site), sized to absorb traffic peaks without slowdowns.
-
Managed LAN in computer rooms, ensuring stable and fast wired connectivity for workstations.
-
High-density WiFi access points, specifically chosen for their ability to manage a large number of simultaneous connections without performance loss.
-
Managed WiFi in all common areas and classrooms, with density adapted to campus footfall.
This robust configuration is essential to ensure seamless Browse for such intensive and simultaneous usage.

Gradual deployment, with no disruption to service
With around thirty campuses spread across the country, the deployment of the Wifirst network for Skolae represents a major undertaking. To date, 19 sites are already fully operated by Wifirst. The next sites, currently in the audit phase, will be progressively deployed during 2025-2026.
Each installation relies on a proven methodology, starting with a detailed technical study of the site. This phase allows for precise calibration of the equipment to be installed, particularly the high-density access points tailored to the building's configuration. The deployment is then carried out in coordination with the establishments, without interruption of service for users.

This rigorous and agile project management ensures business continuity at each site, while guaranteeing a homogeneous network ramp-up across the entire group.
/ USER EXPERIENCE CHALLENGE
A secure and personalised connectivity
Particular attention has been paid to the user experience as well as access security, an essential factor in an educational environment where different groups coexist. Furthermore, each institution has a captive portal that can be customised to the campus colours, offering an intuitive connection interface. This option can help reinforce the campus's visual identity and disseminate useful information to users as soon as they access the WiFi.

This strategy, combining enhanced security with freedom of access, creates a healthy and reliable digital environment for all users.
"Wifirst's unique technical expertise and the attentive support from their teams fully align with our commitment to providing a high-quality digital environment, all in service of academic success. We've truly moved into a new era with a connection worthy of the name for our students, and we're now at the forefront of educational institutions."
