Overview

Set within seven acres of peaceful Leicestershire countryside on the outskirts of the market town of Hinckley, Sketchley Grange Hotel & Spa is a four-star independent country house hotel that blends historic character with contemporary comfort. The original building — an Elizabethan manor house dating from 1580, designed in a distinctive black-and-white mock Tudor style — has been thoughtfully extended over the years to create a 102-room hotel with a reputation for relaxed hospitality, award-winning dining, and exceptional spa and wellness facilities.

Sketchley Grange is home to the Romans Spa & Health Club, with a 17-metre indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room, gym, and dedicated beauty and hair salon. Guests can dine in the Garden Restaurant overlooking landscaped gardens or relax in the Garden Bar. Nine flexible function rooms offer over 9,000 sq ft of space for up to 300 delegates, making the hotel a popular choice for conferences, weddings, and events. Just two minutes from the M69 and within 30 minutes of the NEC and both Birmingham and East Midlands airports, it attracts leisure guests, spa visitors, and business travellers alike.

THE CHALLENGE //Reliable Connectivity Across a Complex Heritage Property

Sketchley Grange's greatest asset — its heritage — also presents its greatest connectivity challenge. The original Elizabethan manor house features thick stone and brick walls that create significant signal attenuation and dead zones, while the property's organic growth over several centuries has produced a varied and complex building layout that makes uniform WiFi coverage difficult to achieve with a conventional approach.

The hotel's mixed use makes connectivity demanding: the network must simultaneously support spa guests streaming by the pool, business delegates running presentations and video calls across nine meeting rooms, leisure guests with multiple devices in their rooms, and staff using POS, property management, and back-of-house systems — all across a large country house estate with indoor and outdoor spaces.

For a four-star independent hotel competing on the strength of its guest experience, unreliable WiFi is not a minor inconvenience — it is a reputational risk that directly impacts guest satisfaction and review scores.

THE TAILORED SOLUTION //

Fully Managed WiFi for a Multi-Use Country House Estate

Wifirst designed and deployed a fully managed WiFi solution tailored to the specific demands of Sketchley Grange's heritage environment and mixed-use guest profile.

Expert Site Survey & Coverage Design

As with other heritage hospitality properties in Wifirst's UK portfolio — including the Champneys Health & Spa — the deployment began with a rigorous radio frequency audit. Detailed signal propagation mapping across the entire property identified coverage gaps, interference sources, and the precise access point positioning needed to overcome the building's thick historic walls and irregular layout. Every hardware placement decision was informed by data, not guesswork.

Wall-to-Wall Coverage

Professional-grade access points were strategically deployed throughout all 102 guest rooms, the Romans Spa & Health Club, the Garden Restaurant and Bar, all nine function and meeting rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces — delivering consistent, high-performance WiFi across the entire property.

High-Density Meeting & Event Support

With up to 300 delegates on site, the network is built for high-density use, maintaining performance whether a room is hosting a full-day conference with many connected devices or a wedding reception with guests sharing and streaming content.

Converged Infrastructure

Guest WiFi, staff operations, POS systems, and property management applications all run on a single managed network — eliminating the complexity and fragility of separate, siloed systems while ensuring each traffic type is appropriately prioritised and secured.

24/7 Proactive Monitoring & Support

Wifirst manages and monitors the network around the clock, detecting and resolving issues remotely before they impact guests, delegates, or hotel operations. For Sketchley Grange's on-site team, this means zero network management burden — freeing them to focus entirely on delivering the guest experience the hotel is known for.

ELEVATING THE GUEST EXPERIENCE // Connectivity That Matches a Four-Star Standard

With Wifirst managing its connectivity end to end, Sketchley Grange now offers seamless, reliable WiFi across every corner of its estate — from the original Elizabethan manor house to the poolside spa and the Garden Restaurant terrace. Guests can stream, browse, and work without interruption, whether relaxing after a spa treatment, presenting to colleagues in the conference suite, or winding down in their room at the end of the day.

The fully managed model has removed the operational burden of network troubleshooting from the hotel's team, eliminated the unpredictability of a patchwork legacy setup, and delivered the kind of invisible, dependable connectivity that today's four-star guests expect as standard. For a heritage property that prides itself on blending historic character with contemporary comfort, the network now reflects exactly that philosophy — modern performance, delivered without compromise.

Wifirst's experience in delivering managed WiFi solutions for heritage hospitality environments — including the comprehensive portfolio-wide deployment for Champneys, where historic listed buildings and sprawling spa estates presented similar challenges — made it the natural partner for Sketchley Grange.
